The City of Mason Fire Department is currently made up of approximately 60 fire and emergency medical personnel. The department consists of twenty-three (23) full-time employees. In addition to the fire chief, full-time staff consists of one deputy fire chief, three shift supervisors (24/48), two fire Safety Inspectors, fifteen (15) FF/paramedics, and a full-time secretary. The remainder of the fire department membership is currently made up of part-time firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians (EMT's) who staff the fire and EMS vehicles.

The Fire Department has 17 vehicles including 2 Quints (purchased in 1999), 2 pumpers, one 100-foot tower ladder, one heavy rescue/hazardous materials truck, 4 paramedic vehicles, 2 paramedic response cars, 2 fire safety inspector cars and additional staff vehicles. These vehicles respond from one of the city's two fire stations or the administrative office. The City of Mason Fire Department handles over 3,000 fire and medical emergency responses each year. Dispatching is through the Warren County Emergency Communications and 9-1-1 Center, located in Lebanon, a city 10 miles north of Mason.

All firefighters are trained to the State of Ohio Fire Fighter Minimum Standards Firefighter Level 1, with more of the firefighters maintaining advanced certifications up to the maximum firefighter certification Firefighter Level II (240 hours). Mason's emergency medical vehicles are staffed by a combination of emergency medical technicians (EMT's) and paramedics. The City of Mason Fire Department is accredited by the State of Ohio Division of Emergency Medical Services to teach and certify EMT and paramedic continuing education classes.

The Fire Department is responsible for fire prevention, public education, and inspections, with the fire safety inspectors inspecting all City of Mason businesses at least once a year. The Fire Department works closely with the Engineering and Building Department in reviewing all the plans for new subdivisions, buildings, and additions to existing structures.

The City of Mason Fire and Police Departments maintain a cooperative Police and Fire chaplain's unit.

The Mason-Deerfield Fire Auxiliary is a non-profit support group made up of area residents whose mission it is to support the operations of the Fire Department. Although the Auxiliary is not a part of the Fire Department and operates under its own board of directors, the Fire Department and Auxiliary work hand-in-hand to support and aid the residents of the city.

The Fire Department 2004 budget, including emergency medical services, was approximately $4 million.
